Well, it's
spring in Northeast Ohio.
Robins dance across the yard, fresh buds appear daily on the wide
variety of trees, and the warm weather coaxes out the masses in
shorts and halter-tops.
Ahem (cough, cough) …
Okay, so shoot me. I'm a writer and it's my job to embellish a
bit.
First off, the robins: The reason these creatures are so happy and
begin chirping at the TOP of their lungs at 5:00 AM is simple. Mud
means worms. Yes mud.
At this time of year the weather shifts daily from rain, to snow,
and then back to temperatures near the 60's. As an example, we
experienced a wonderful heat wave this week. Tonight's forecast
harbors dire warnings of five inches of snow. Great!
Which brings point two, the buds on the trees: I often wonder how
the poor trees in this area survive. No sooner do they get a set
of leaf buds, than a blizzard rolls in and the process starts all
over. I have to admit though, it's great for maple sap harvesting.
Point three, shorts and halter-tops: Okay, so this is not a
fabrication. In my neck of the woods we've learned to take
advantage of the precious moments we get before we jump straight
into a scorching summer. Hence on a warm day, no one thinks twice
about showing milk-white legs and arms to the world. Visitors
beware. Bring sunglasses to shield you from the blinding light of
native skin. LOL
But I do love it here, and I don't think I could live full time
anywhere else. That doesn't preclude me from wanting to take trips
to warmer regions.
And speaking of trips, the end of April brings the annual Romantic
Times Booklover's convention. This year it will be held in St.
Louis, and you can bet your bottom dollar I will be there to take
advantage of warmer weather. Check out my News page for exact
dates and details.
Some of you may have noticed the little heart added just below the
Lady Dragon book cover on this page. I am honored to say that the
graphic was awarded to me by the online review site, The Romance
Studio. Lady Dragon was named "Best Historical Romance of 2004" by
their staff. I want to express my thanks to those who took time
out of their busy schedules to read all the entries and vote. It
means a lot to us author types.
Well, so ends my April musings. I hope to see you in St. Louis.
Cheers,
